What previous knowledge/experience/skills is required?
This course is for anyone who would like more confidence and better communication skills at work, whether they've been in their job for years, are just about to return, or are considering doing so.

It would also interest anyone with previous experience in NLP who wants to apply NLP principles in the work environment, though no previous experience of NLP is necessary or expected.

The most important thing is that you should be willing and able to share your experiences with others, and open to the idea of change.

What you can do next, after this course
- Other personal development courses at Mary Ward such asSpeak Up! / Presenting Confidently and Creatively- tutor to advise.

Course Content
Students will be asked to work with their own particular issues throughout the course, so the exact contente will vary according to the wishes of the group. However, we will be likely to cover all the main NLP principles relevant to confidence and communication at work, including:

- Maintaining and anchoring positive states - Creating and sustaining a confident presence - Establishing the best possible linguistic, behavioural and cultural rapport with other individuals and groups of all sizes. - Understanding others' values and meta-programs - Implementing change in the workplace, NLP style.

What materials you will need for the course and estimated cost
No additional materials are required, as notes will be provided. Students may wish to purchase some of the books brought to class, but this is not nearly as important as active participation on the course itself.

What you should be able to do by the end of the course
- Create and maintain a confident state at work. - Understand aspects of your past that may have previously been a puzzle. - Be able to use a range of NLP tools to help yourself/and or others make affirming choices and decisions in the future. - Feel more confident about creating your own life-experiences - Create a plan to help you develop yourself and your purpose at decision points in the future.

The teaching and learning methods we use on the course
Experiential learning is key: the most important thing you can do to enjoy and benefit from this course is to bring along your own experiences as whole-heartedly as you can.

There is also some discussion of ideas, pair and small-group work and learning via demonstrations.

There is relatively little written work, although students are encouraged to keep a journal of their progress.

How we assess your progress on the course
At the start: Enjoyable activities to give you a beginning confidence, "score".

On the course: Observation, discussion of experiences during the week, learning journal, weekly confidence boosting "homework".

At the end: Rescoring of your confidence level, enjoyable final challenge.

What extra study/practice we expect you to do outside the class

There is detailed information in Reception about all our courses at the Mary Ward Centre and a library of prospectuses for other London colleges to help you continue your studies. If you need more detailed advice, please ask a member of reception staff, and a half-hour guidance interview can be arranged for you.
