Beginners Painting & Drawing Exhibition

Course is for beginners, no previous experience or skill is required. Those with some drawing or painting experience will be able to use the course to consolidate or expand existing skills.

The course gives students a broad base of drawing and painting skills. The first weeks are devoted to drawing and some painting in a variety of black and white media. Working mainly from observation, starting with simple still-life's, in order to develop basic pictorial elements such as mark-making, measurement, line, tone, texture and composition.

Colour will be approached firstly through collage and then using acrylic paints. Learning about basic colour mixing and how to manage a basic colour palette, as well as continuing to develop your skills in observation, tone and composition. Life drawing, perspective water colour and working from the imagination are also covered during the course. Strategies for collecting and collating source material as well as discussion/reflection/appreciation skills are developed

Tutor: Sophie Aston
