Our mission is to develop and provide excellent and innovative Adult Education and Community Services.

 

Mary Ward Centre's Commitment to its Students
The Mary Ward Centre is nothing but a building. Its success as a place of learning depends on the aspirations of its students, the degree to which its staff help to fulfill those aspirations; and the manner in which that staff undertake those tasks which aid the fulfilling of those aspirations.

This Student Charter below shows what students can expect from the Centre, and what we expect from students.

Mary Ward Students Can Expect:

  • Courteous, helpful and friendly staff
  • Impartial, relevant advice and confidential guidance
  • Awareness by staff when to refer you to more specialist help
  • Quality assured teachers
  • Well-planned courses
  • A firm commitment to putting equal opportunities into practice
  • Formal and informal channels for expressing students' views

If We Fail In This You Can Expect:

  • A readiness to accept responsibility for our shortcomings
  • A willingness to put things right
  • Staff at all levels empowered to use their initiative to solve problems
  • A straightforward complaints procedure for you to share concerns
  • A prompt response to any formal complaint
  • Assurance that we learn from our mistakes

What We Expect From Our Students:

  • Punctuality, to avoid disrupting fellow students
  • Regular attendance, so that the class can proceed as planned
  • Thoughtfulness, namely considering the needs of fellow students and not being over-demanding of time and attention to the detriment of others
  • Participating, endeavouring to take full part
  • Following safety instructions, particularly in craft areas and instructions re Fire evacuation procedures
  • Co-operating with the class tutor
  • Switching off mobile phones in class

Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Policies (including Rehabilitation of Offenders Policy)
The Mary Ward Centre is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff, volunteers, children in our care and visitors. All staff employed after 1 January 2007 have been CRB checked. All staff employed before this date have been checked against Section 142 of the Education Act 2002, previously called List 99, and are undergoing CRB checks.

Complaints Procedure
The Mary Ward Centre's prime concern is that any person dealing with the Centre should have an efficient, courteous and helpful encounter. Likewise any user of our services has a right to expect quality in that service and value for money. A complaint would be defined as the sharing of a negative experience by a member of the public or user of the Centre's services which in their opinion was as a result of the Centre's failure to meet an expected level of efficiency, courtesy, helpfulness or quality.

The Centre takes complaints seriously and encourages its users to bring to the attention of its staff any instance of an unsatisfactory outcome or experience. Our complaints procedure confirms that any complaint will be treated with courtesy, impartiality and in confidence. Complaints can be made in person, in writing, by fax or by telephone
