Mary Ward Centre Enrolment Processes for 08/09 courses
What is the Membership fee?
The fee was introduced in 2007/2008, and will continue at the same rate for 2008/2009. It is charged to all students, except those attending English and Skills for Life courses, and those on our widening participation programme. It helps to mitigate the decrease in funding from the government for adult education which has taken place over the last few years, and which otherwise would lead to a much larger increase in fees. It also helps us to keep a appropriate balance between the price of the full fee and the concessionary fee, so that we continue to have a wide mix of students.
When you enrol on a course and sign your learning agreement, you are agreeing to become a member of the Mary Ward Settlement. All staff, as well as students, are members and have both the opportunity of electing representatives to the Board of Trustees and to vote at the AGM which is on Monday 15 December at 6.15pm. Members are invited to take an active part in the life of the Mary Ward Centre. The Principal and Vice Principal hold open meetings for members during the year. These meetings offer the opportunity for you to discuss your thoughts about the Centre or your course. Times and dates will be advertised in the Centre and on this website during the year. This year the membership fee is £8 for full fee payers and £4 for concessionary fee payers.
Please remember to include the fee with your first enrolment. Failure to do so could result in your enrolment being delayed.

How can I secure a place on very popular courses?
There is no certain way to secure a place on any course. We try very hard to be fair to everyone but some courses are very over-subscribed and so it is inevitable that some people will not get a place. However, most courses are termly so if you miss out on the first term you can enrol for the second or third term. Please be sure to mark your form accordingly if you would like to enrol for another term.
Our prospectus comes out in June. All students enrolled in the current year are automatically sent a copy and anyone else who asks will also be sent a copy. Please check with the centre for when on-line enrolments go ‘live’ for the following academic year. If you are not claiming concessionary fees you can enrol on-line as soon as the prospectus goes ‘live’. If you are entitled to concession you will need to either come in person with your evidence and your payment, or post/ fax in the relevant forms as soon as you receive the prospectus. You may also put second options on your form in case your first option is full. This will speed up the process and may help avoid any disappointment .
