Introduction

The Mary Ward Centre is London's Adult Education College with a difference. Large enough to sustain a dynamic, relevant range of courses yet small enough to be able to give a first rate personal service to its users. It deserves its reputation as being the friendly place to learn.

Mary Ward Centre Plaque ImageWhy choose the Mary Ward Centre?
Why do 7,000 Londoners every year choose us? The foremost reason is our courses, which are at all levels from introductory to advanced, and which are taught by experienced well-qualified tutors. Day, evening and weekend options of varying length help ensure a time convenient for your schedules. The elegant but homely building with its welcoming ambience plus its Central London location with superb transport connections makes us a favourite choice with adult learners.

Scope
From art to reflexology, computer applications to confidence building, painting to public speaking, through to yoga you really will find something to mesh with your enthusiasms or practical needs. Many courses have certificates at the end of them, should you be looking to add to your qualifications. But there are also countless opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge and personal insights purely for the pleasure of so doing.

Who was Mary Ward?
Mary Ward was a dynamic late Victorian who acquired fame and riches through her best selling novels. She founded the Mary Ward Settlement with the aim of providing cultural and educational opportunities to those denied them through circumstances of birth. She was instrumental in setting up Somerville College, the first women's college at Oxford and also introduced the first school for physically handicapped children and the play centre movement to England.

Student profiles
Adult learners are as varied as society itself. We have men and women of all ages and backgrounds; there are no stereotypes. All can learn and all can find fellowship at Mary Ward. The student profile page brings together the words and experiences of some of our students.
