Artistic Floristry

This is a creative floristry course, for all levels. Students will use their imagination to create displays and arrangement s inspired by the colours, textures and shapes of an artwork. You will explore learn basic floristry skills, as well as more unusual and advanced techniques. The second day will include a trip to New Covent Garden Flower Market to select flowers and foliage for your display.

Who is this course for

No previous knowledge is required as the tutor will be on hand to guide and advice them. If students have had previous experience it will be a great chance to build on that to create some thing really creative an imaginative.

This Course will take place at Blackfriars Settlement 1 Rushworth Street, London SE1 ORB.
This a new Mary Ward Centre location and is a short walk from Southwark Tube Station.

What does this course cover

Art to floristry is a creative floristry course, for all levels. Students will use their imagination to create displays and arrangement s inspired by a piece of artwork.
Students will be asked to look at colours, textures and shapes within a chosen art work and use flowers and foliage, provided for them on the first day, to make an inspired display.
They will learn basic floristry skills, as well as more unusual and advanced techniques.
Day two will include a trip to New Covent Garden Flower Market, where Students will be asked to select and buy their own flowers and foliage to create a design inspired by an artwork of their choice.
The course will cover basic floristry techniques, such as conditioning and selecting the correct flowers and foliage, wiring, creating an arrangement, and how to design to a concept or brief.

What will it be like

The teaching on the summer school course will include, tutorials, handouts, demonstrations and groups work and one to ones.

Teaching methods:
Visual demonstration and verbal explanation.
Written handouts with visual diagrams.
One-to-one teaching.
Group discussions.
Learning methods:
Hands-on practical activities
Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.

What else do you need to buy or do

All basic materials will be provided. Flowers and foliage will be provided on day one.
The second day will involve a trip to the flower market where students will need to buy their own flowers and foliage and any extra materials needed for their design.
As well as transport back to Blackfriars Settlement from the market.
Flowers/foliage -approx. £40.00

What this course could lead to

Students will have learnt basic floristry skills that they can go on and practice and build on.
