Christmas Ceramics

A fun and informative course for all levels to make unique ceramic christmas decorations and gifts whilst learning a range of techniques for construction and surface decoration with clay. Taught by experienced ceramic handbuilder Charlotte Hailey-Watts.

Who is this course for

An all levels course. Those with more experience will be given guidance toward more complex techniques.

What does this course cover

You will have the opportunity to make a variety of flat and 3D christmas decorations and/ or small sculptures and shown the techniques required to succeed in this. We will then glaze items and finish the items for gifting and display. We will also look at work by ceramic artists for inspiration.
List all the learning outcomes -By the end of the course you should be able to:

1. To learn how to construct flat or 3D, well finished hangable decorations
2. To build confidence working with clay from whatever level you are at
3. To learn about and use a variety of surface decoration techniques
4. To learn about ceramic glazes and how to mix and apply for different effects

What will it be like

This is a practical course with hands-on demonstrations , hand outs and visual diagrams.

Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

What else do you need to buy or do

Please bring a notebook and wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty. You may wish to bring your own apron.
