Dreamweaver Website Building

A chance to gain an understanding of website design using Dreamweaver on a long course that covers all the features you need to make your web pages. This course will introduce you to web page and website creation before you progress onto the more advanced features. Learn how to navigate, use tables, text and images, hyperlink pages, Cascading Style Sheets, interactive forms, colour, templates, audio, AP elements, image maps and behaviours. You will be shown how to set up your local site, upload it to a web hosting server (ISP) and then update it.

Who is this course for

This course introduces website design using Dreamweaver. Over the 9 weeks the course covers the methodology utilised to create web pages and websites, from simple table layout to more complex Styles and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to format and control the layout of the pages. The course is suitable for complete beginners to web design as well as those with some previous experience. Please note that if you are more than 30 minutes later for your course the tutor can not let you start as it disrupts the learning of the other students.

What does this course cover

The course begins utilising the simpler methods (table layout) with a basic HTML introduction and then quickly builds up to Styles and CCS. Navigation through the site with hyperlinks, adjustment of images and text, adding behaviours to images or text, adding interactive forms and google maps, utilising image maps, adding audio and video on your webpages are all covered. Concepts of good design are introduced as well as incorporating Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) design techniques to enhance your website's visibility. You will be shown how to set up your local site, upload it to a web hosting server (ISP) and then update it. At the end of the course you will know how to create websites that should look good and could contain any of the above elements.

What will it be like

Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.+
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.+

What else do you need to buy or do

Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.+
It is highly recommended for either course that students practice week by week at home, and therefore acquire the software. As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.

This starting course has everything you need to get a website up and operating. You may wish to take the Introduction to WordPress course as well as Photoshop courses
