ECDL – Extra ITQ Level 2 Certificate – Daytime
Learn to use the three key programs used in employment: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The course is tutor-led throughout and students are advised to consolidate their learning outside the college, or make use of the Student Learning Resource Room. Upon successful completion of four short online exams, you receive the BCS Level 2 ITQ Certificate in IT User Skills.

Who is this course for
This is the accredited Level 2 course for students who have successfully completed the level 1 course or or who have sufficient knowledge at the introductory level to feel confident enough to complete the modules. It is a qualification in computing that is widely recognised by employers as the benchmark in computing skills.
A successful student will be equipped with knowledge of computers and computing software to a level that is recognised as being the standard for the workplace. The student should have sufficient confidence and competence to take their studies in computing to the next level or to transfer their skills to use computers in other subjects.
Depending upon their starting point students may well need to do extra work outside the class in order to complete the course so a broadband connection is an advantage. Before enrolling students will need to show a commitment to completing all the modules. Please ensure you have at least E3/L1 English/ESOL.
What does this course cover
1. Word Processing - Microsoft Word
Processing This unit develops the learners ability to create word-processed documents, entering text, editing and formatting work and using graphs, tables and pictures for a professional finish. The learner will also understand how to work more effectively using tools such as the spell-checker and mail merge.
2. Spreadsheet - Microsoft Excel
Software This ECDL unit helps learners develop a working knowledge of spreadsheets from entering data and formatting worksheets through to creating charts and producing high quality documents.
3. Presentation - Microsoft PowerPoint
Software The Presentation Software unit introduces the learner to this important means of business communication. Upon completion, learners will be capable of producing high quality presentations using a variety of tools including charts, graphs and drawn objects.
4. IT Productivity
Using IT The ITQ requires the inclusion of content that builds the learners ability to work more effectively with IT. This unit looks at using tools to help save time and effort when producing word-processed documents, presentations and spreadsheets.
What will it be like
The tutor-led element of the course consists of a combination of Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. Also one-to-one and Group work, tutor directed build-up exercises and mock tests. Individual tutor guidance and hands-on practice will lead to the completion of online examinations.
The tutor will closely monitor the students' work as well as questioning, observing progress, setting tasks and online questioning with diagnosis.+
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
What else do you need to buy or do
All handouts and materials are supplied free of charge.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home from homework given by the tutor or by using the Mary Ward Learning centre.

Mary Ward Centre courses:- Preparing for ECDL Level 3 and the ECDL Level 3 qualification.
