On this course, you will improve your spelling, writing, speaking and listening and reading skills. You will learn how to spell and break down words, develop a strategy for spelling, write better sentences and improve your reading skills.

On this course, you will practise your reading, writing, speaking and listening.
You will practise how to give and follow instructions, take part in discussions, respond to different points of view, and use formal and informal language.
You will learn how to read and understand texts quickly, how to find information and details and how to recognise the different purposes of texts.
In your writing, you will practise how to plan, organise and write whole pieces of writing e.g. letters and stories. You will practise writing complete sentences, using basic grammar and punctuation, and how to spell common words.
By the end of the course you should be able to:
What will it be like
On this course, you will learn with your fellow students, complete tasks in class and for homework. You will work together, with your tutor's help, and you will also work on your own sometimes. You will also learn by communicating with your peers, working on worksheets, keeping a spelling journal, playing spelling games, and using laptops to help with writing.
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
What else do you need to buy or do
You need an A4 file, paper, pens and pencils.
What this course could lead to
You will be able to do speaking and listening, reading and writing exams (Functional Skills) during the year.
If you complete this course and pass the exam you can progress to Level 1 Literacy. If you are interested in brushing up your IT, Math and English skills, you can also do the IT, Math and English course for beginners and for those who need to brush up.
