First Steps In Ballroom Dance
From Foxtrot to Waltz, Rumba to Jive, this class gives you the opportunity to experience ballroom and Latin dance. Devised for beginners, this course will support you in your first steps giving you the individual attention required within a group setting. No dance experience necessary.
Who is this course for
This course has been designed for anyone who'd like to have a go at Ballroom dancing. No previous dance experience is necessary.
What does this course cover
Throughout the course students will study the basics in a selection of Ballroom and Latin dances. By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Dance the basic and one or two additional steps in Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha and Jive.
2. Dance to the music with a focus on timing, acknowledging the correct rhythm for each dance.
3. Have a good hold and strong frame in order to dance with a partner effectively.
4. Understand the concept of leading and following and give/receive signals to/from a partner.
5. Begin to understand how technique is applied to each dance in order to accentuate style.
What will it be like
The tutor teaches basic steps in each dance and observes the students execution of the steps. Students will be taught in a group setting and then individual attention will be given to ensure the steps are being executed correctly. There will be discussion on the style and feel of each dance and information given on the history of the dances. Appropriate music will also be selected and discussed to ensure that timing and rhythm are being considered. Learners will have the opportunity to ask questions regularly both in a group and one-to-one setting. Students will be given informal tutor feedback throughout the course and may ask for feedback at any time. The feedback will result from tutor observations.
What else do you need to buy or do
Students are not required to purchase anything additional for this course. Comfortable shoes and clothes are required to maximise movement.
No additional study is needed, although practice will enable learners improve at a faster rate.
What this course could lead to
After this course students may be able to continue onto the Improvers Ballroom dance course. The tutor will advise students on the most appropriate course to enrol on after First Steps in Ballroom dance. On completion of this course students will be able to recognise what dances fit to certain pieces of music and therefore dance Ballroom and Latin steps in a social setting.
