Internet For Beginners

This course is for anyone who wished to learn how to make use of the internet for home or work. From beginners to students who have some experience of using it. The course takes you through many aspects of the internet including browsing, searching as well as an introduction to the use of email, blogs and podcasts.

Please note that the Wednesday course will take place at Blackfriars Settlement, 1 Rushworth Street, London SE1 ORB.
This is a new Mary Ward Centre location and is a short walk from Southwark Tube Station

Who is this course for

Anyone who wishes to learn how to make use of the internet for home or work. Also those who may have been using the Internet for some time but want to know more. The course takes you from the beginnings of the world wide web to looking at the current uses. No previous knowledge of Internet is required, but some experience of Windows is essential.

What does this course cover

For students to become familiar with the Internet for personal use or work. Includes all aspects of Internet use from the history through browsing and searching as well as an introduction to the use of e-mail on the Internet, blogs and podcasts.
Know what the Internet is; Access the internet; Visit websites; Use Favorites; Use History; Save and Print a web page; Save an Image; Use Search Engines to Find Specific Information; Intro to web email; Find specialist software; Use blogs and podcasts; Download music, images and videos; Visit social networking sites; Understand Internet security.

By the end of the course you should be able to:
Understand what the Internet is and how to use a Browser to navigate a Website.
Know what a Search Engine is and how to use it.
Be able to search for images and download them.
Write and send emails including using attachments.
Be able to Shop Online.
Read Blogs, watch Videos and listen to music online.

What will it be like

Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet

What else do you need to buy or do

Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
