Who is this course for
For those who wish to learn how to keep themselves safe when using the internet to confidently carry out tasks such as emailing, online banking and ordering online. No previous experience is required. Students can bring their own device. For class activities experience of using Windows 10 PCs is recommended but not essential.
What does this course cover
Browsing online, downloading and sharing files such as images and documents. Preventing pop ups (ads) when browsing. Creating strong passwords, reporting and protecting yourself from scams and identity theft. Managing privacy on social network sites such as Facebook. Shopping online on sites such as ebay and Amazon, understanding payment methods and protection when using Credit/Debit cards and Paypal. Knowing your consumer rights when buying online. Keeping your system (PC/Laptop/Device) updated and protected from malicious software such as malware and viruses.
What will it be like
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
