Introduction to Acting Skills

This new course is an introduction to acting skills with a focus on performance and self-development. Throughout the duration of this course, you will be introduced to improvisation, role-play, voice, movement, and character building. You will also learn exercises that will help your personal self-development, enabling you to communicate more effectively through body language and your voice. From there, you will be encouraged to create a devised performance which will allow you to showcase the skills you have acquired within the six weeks. This course aims to build confidence, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills, making it ideal for people with minimal to no performance experience.

Who is this course for

This course is ideal for people with minimal to no performance experience where you will learn the basics of acting in a safe, supportive and fun environment. It is a practical course so you will need to have a willingness to participate in a range of planned activities within a supportive friendly environment.

What does this course cover

' Acting and communication skills by using drama activities in a fun, safe and supportive environment
' To use improvisation
' Develop trust during group work, through drama games and exercises
' Build confidence and personal development and also discover your performance potential
' basic acting vocabulary
' Roleplay using characterisation and scene setting
' Have fun!

What will it be like

Methods of teaching will include:
Discussion
Individual, pair and group work
Creative practical tasks and performance
Tutor and peer feedback

What else do you need to buy or do

' Comfortable clothes allowing you to move freely
' Trainers
' Pen and notebook

What this course could lead to

Students can take up further study and the second and third term involving devised short scenes using a range of storytelling and an exploration of writing scripts through using improvisation and roleplay.
