Introduction To Complementary Therapies

This course is designed to help you learn the basics of four exciting complementary therapies: Indian Head Massage; Massage; Aromatherapy and Reflexology. The course aims to provide you with the necessary practical and theoretical skills to give safe and effective mini treatments for relaxation on family and friends.

Who is this course for

This is an introductory course and no previous experience is necessary. Students need to be able to follow verbal instructions and extract information from handouts. Students are required to give and receive practical treatments.

Massage is generally safe for everyone but there are condtions when it is not suitable, such as in the first trimester of pregnancy. Please check with a health professional if you have any health concerns.

What does this course cover

For 518:
This introductory course is designed to enable students to learn the basics of 4 exciting complementary therapies; Indian Head Massage, Massage, Aromatherapy and Reflexology.
The course aims to provide learners with the necessary practical and theoretical skills that will enable them to give safe and effective mini treatments for relaxation on family and friends.

30 minute relaxation routines in 4 different complementary therapies.
Concept and historical background for each of the 4 therapies
Therapeutic benefits and uses for each of the 4 therapies
Safety guidelines to each treatment
Massage mediums including: carrier oils, hair oils, essential oils and creams

For 526:
This introductory course is designed to enable students to learn the basics of 3 exciting complementary therapies; Indian Head Massage, Aromatherapy and Hand Reflexology.
The course aims to provide learners with the necessary practical and theoretical skills that will enable them to give safe and effective mini treatments for relaxation on family and friends.

Therapeutic benefits and uses for therapy
Safety guidelines to each treatment
Massage mediums including: carrier oils, hair oils, essential oils and creams

What will it be like

Lecture / PowerPoint presentation, discussion, small group work, questions and answers
Practical: Students will work in pairs massaging each other, facilitated by the tutor verbally, through demonstration and direct hands-on.
You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. Self-assessment tests throughout the course. At the end of the course you will be ask to complete a course evaluation form.

What else do you need to buy or do

You will need to bring 2 hand towels, wet wipes/ hand sanitiser gel. More information will be provided by the tutor on the first day of the course. This is mainly a practical course. No work outside of class is required other than reading through the given handouts and practicing your newly acquired skills on friends and family.

What this course could lead to

Students can enrol on other introductory courses in the field of complementary therapies. Such as Aromatherapy or Massage: Further Techniques course, Intro to Ayurveda and Diet and Nutrition.
