Introduction to MS Word

This course is designed for the beginners and students who wish to improve on their basic knowledge of Microsoft Word. The course will cover key skills such as creating documents, saving, printing, editing and formatting documents, inserting pictures and improving document presentation. No skills or experience necessary although some mouse and keyboard skills are preferred.

This course is suitable for beginners and students who wish to improve on their basic knowledge of MS Word. It is aimed at anyone looking to start using computers and students who work, or aspires to work in an office environment.

What does this course cover

Participants will be taught the skills to create accurate text documents using a range of paragraph and character formats, alignments, fonts size and colouring. They will be taught to insert photos and tables, then how to save/ print/ share file documents on computers or online.
Students will gain confidence in creating documents, using practical skills in typing, writing, spelling, texts and improving document presentation. Learners will know how to produce clear, well laid out documents such as letters and reports and CV's. This course shows you how to achieve the required skills in order to work in an office environment.
The course will cover:
' The Word screen (User Interface Elements & Navigate in Microsoft Word)
' Create, open, save and edit documents
' Print and Preview documents
' Fonts formatting and Styles
' Paragraph formatting
' Selection and Copy/Paste options
' Bullets and Numbering lists
' Insert Pictures, Tables and ClipArt
' Page setting and Layout
' Introduction to headers and footers
' An explanation of different versions of MS Word 2007/Word10/Word16 and Office 365
' Shared documents using Google Docs.

Students working in roles such as Personal or Admin Assistant, Office Administrator, Secretary and writers, could find this course extremely valuable.

What will it be like

The course is fully taught with practical tasks to complete on the computer and manually both individually and in groups. Activities will include demonstrations, examples and discussions.
There will be ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observations and tasks. Achievement tick sheet and start and end of class student self-assessment.
You will be able to print and save documents that you have been created or saved in clouds and sharing with others or keep them forever.

What else do you need to buy or do

Please bring a notebook and A4 folder for the course handouts.
A selection of basic materials such as hand out examples and plain papers for printing will be provided.

What this course could lead to

Learners will leave feeling confident about creating documents with the software and be able to navigate the interface intuitively and productively.
You will become more familiar with all computer fields with nice feeling that you need more in-depth courses like word stage1 or Microsoft Office.
Microsoft Word Stage1 and Advanced level knowledge of this software could lead to job opportunities since MS Word is used a lot in the workplace.
