Introduction to Working With Adolescents
This course is for qualified counsellors/ psychotherapists with at least a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent) who have an interest in developing work in this field. We will explore the developmental phase of adolescence through theoretical concepts and practical client examples including creative ways of working with young people and the BACP Guidelines for competence needed to work with this client group. Students who attend will gain a CPD certificate of 6 hours.

Who is this course for
Open to all with at least a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling or equivalent for personal and professional development who are either working with teenagers or who have an interest in developing work in this field. CPD Credits: Students who attend will also gain a CPD certificate for 12 guided learning hours.
What does this course cover
Students will learn about the tasks of adolescence, developmental theory of adolescence and some theoretical models of working therapeutically with this population including insight into risk assessment and an understanding of when to refer on.
By the end of the course students will have increased awareness and understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical skills necessary for engaging adolescents in therapeutic work. Additionally they will be signposted to ways that skills and practise in this field can be developed further.
What will it be like
Teaching will be through presentation of theoretical concepts and case material. There will be discussion and experiential learning in small and large groups. The students will form pairs and triads for practicing skills. Assessment of learning will be in the form of tutor observation of student demonstration and subsequent tutor and peer feedback.
Students will be required to keep a learning journal.

This course is for continued professional and personal development ( CPD ) for which a certificate of attendance will be supplied. (Please note that it is not designed as a stand alone training to qualify counsellors to work with teenagers.)
