Introduction To Working With Children

A practical accredited course preparing students for level 2. We will look at childrens social, emotional, physical and creative development. Interviews take place in July and September. For further details ask to speak to Kirsty Barlow.

No previous experience needed, just an interest in working in this field.

What does this course cover

During the course we will start to look at a number of different aspects of childcare. These will include:
The core skills needed to work in Early Years settings - develop an understanding of the core skills required as a practitioner in an Early Years setting.
Developing children's confidence through play - how a range of play activities for young children can be used to build their confidence.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion of all children in an Early Years setting - how to ensure best practice for a modern childcare setting.
The importance of books and stories in children's lives and the impact on their learning. - rhymes, songs and books, why we read to children and choosing the resources to get the best out of a story.
The Rights of a Child - respecting and valuing children and the UN convention.

What will it be like

Fun, fun, fun!
Lots of pair and group work to support learning about working with children. A mix of theory and practical aspects will be used to further your understanding of childcare.
Assessment will be by observation, practical activities, worksheets and discussion.

What else do you need to buy or do

Students should have a pen, paper and folder.
Weekly homework is provided.

What this course could lead to

Look forward to developing skills required to move onto a Level 1 course in Childcare (January 2020 start) and open doors to employment.
