What does this course cover

Life Drawing: The Line Of Beauty

In this one day life drawing workshop, we will take inspiration from William Hogarth's theory, 'The Line Of Beauty', his observation being that the curved, supine line is a motif that runs through anatomy, nature, design and composition. We will look at William Hogarth's plates as well as examples by other painters. There will be some anatomy discussion using our skeleton and life model.

What will it be like

We will do a series of short exercises focusing on gestural drawing, contours, and volume. The afternoon session will be a long pose giving students a chance to develop their own ideas.

All levels of ability are welcome; Beginners will gain an understanding of gestural drawing that will capture the energy of the figure. Advanced students will be able to think about Hogarth's theories in relation to their own composition.

Basic materials are available but students are welcome to bring in any mediums for working with. For oil painting, please uses non-odorous substitutes instead of solvents. You are able to bring your choice of paints if using them (any water based or oil based colours) £20 plus supports (canvas, board paper) £20 plus. brushes (nylon or hoghair) £20 plus.
