Massage: Further Techniques

For students who have already done an introductory course in massage and want to learn further skills such as hands free techniques and passive joint movements to improve joint mobility.
Please bring one large towel and two hand towels
and a small bowl for your oil.

Who is this course for

This course is for students who have already done an introductory course in massage and wish to build on their knowledge, practice their skills and learn new techniques.
Also suitable for qualified therapists who wish to learn new techniques to complement their existing massage routines.

Massage is generally safe for everyone but there are condtions when it is not suitable, such as in the first trimester of pregnancy. Please check with a health professional if you have any health concerns.

What does this course cover

Safety considerations for deep tissue work
Further massage techniques for the Back / Neck / Arms
Benefits and uses of:
Deep tissue body work
Stretches for the back / shoulders and neck
Working with heat pads
Techniques to increase shoulder / elbow and wrist joint mobility
Define the safety guidelines for using deep tissue work and when to avoid them
Explain the benefits of deep tissue work on the muscular and skeletal system
Safely demonstrate:
Deep tissue techniques using a variety of different strokes including heat pads
Stretches for the back and neck
Passive joint movements for the shoulders / elbow and wrist

What will it be like

Theory teaching methods include: Lecture / PowerPoint presentation / group work / discussion / questions and answers / self- assessment test
Practical:Students will work in pairs massaging each other, facilitated by the tutor verbally, through demonstration and direct hands-on.
At the start: you will be ask to complete a:
- Health and Safety form
- Lesson summary quiz
On the course: You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate.
At the end: You will be ask to complete a course evaluation form.

What else do you need to buy or do

Please bring with you; 1 Bath towel; 4 hand towels; Antiseptic wetwipes or handgel; pocket tissues;
Massage oil, 100ml

What this course could lead to

Students can enrol on further complementary therapies such as Aromatherapy, Indian Head massage, Alexander technique, Herbalism, Diet and Nutrition or apply for a professional practitioners course, tutor to advise.
