Use found and bought materials: crockery, tiles and coloured glass, to make a small mosaic. Materials are provided but you are welcome to bring personal pieces as well.
Who is this course for
The course is a practical introduction to the beginner and no previous skill or knowledge is expected. It would give the more experienced student a chance to experiment with found materials.
What does this course cover
Introduction to mosaic.
1. Learn to cut glass, tiles and break china into particular shapes and to set the pieces in a pleasing design.
2. Have completed a small mosaic object, eg, mirror, frame or plaque.
3. Have developed skills and ideas to be able to continue with mosaic processes.
What will it be like
A practical course where students use a variety of materials to assemble a mosaic.
A combination of group and individual demonstration and discussion.
Students assess and criticise their own work in conjunction with the tutor. Group participation in discussing work in progress and on completion.
What else do you need to buy or do
Basic materials will be provided though students may want to bring some of their own as well. If students want to decorate a frame they should provide this themselves.
None expected but coming to the course with some ideas or images gleaned from exhibitions, museums or books is helpful.

Other art courses at Mary Ward Centre including Pre-Foundation in Applied or Fine Art courses, Foundation into Art and Design.
Students can develop their skills further by progressing on to other Mary Ward Centre courses in Glass.
