MS Office For Beginners

This course is designed for the beginners and students who wish to improve on their basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. No skills or experience is necessary although some mouse and keyboard skills are preferred. The course will cover key skills such as creating, saving, printing, editing and formatting documents and spreadsheets. It will also cover inserting pictures and improving document presentation.

This Course will take place at Blackfriars Settlement, 1 Rushworth Street, London SE1 ORB.
This is a new Mary Ward Centre location and is a short walk from Southwark Tube Station

Who is this course for

This course is suitable for beginners and students who wish to improve on their basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. It is aimed at anyone looking to start using computers and students who work, or aspires to work in an office environment.

What does this course cover

Participants will be taught the skills to create accurate documents using a range of processes.
Students will gain confidence in creating documents and spreadsheets, using practical skills in typing, writing, spelling, texts and improving document presentationThis course shows you how to achieve the required skills in order to work in an office environment.
The course will cover: Word-2 sessions, Excel -2 sessions, PowerPoint -1 session, Outlook -1 session
' The Microsoft Office interface
' Create, open, save and edit documents and spreadsheets
' Print and Preview documents
' Fonts formatting and Styles
' Formatting
' Selection and Copy/Paste options
' Lists
' Insert Pictures, Tables and ClipArt
' Internet browsing
' An explanation of different versions of Microsoft office and Office 365
' Shared documents using Google Docs.

Students working in roles such as Personal or Admin Assistant, Office Administrator, Secretary and writers, could find this course extremely valuable.

What will it be like

The course is fully taught with practical tasks to complete on the computer and manually both individually and in groups. Activities will include demonstrations, examples and discussions.
There will be ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observations and tasks. Achievement tick sheet and start and end of class student self-assessment.
You will be able to print and save documents that you have been created. We will use Moodle to access and save course documents, and students can save on other cloud platforms aswell.

What else do you need to buy or do

Please bring a USB stick to save you work on to, notebook and A4 folder for the course handouts.
A selection of basic materials such as hand outs, examples and printing will be provided.

What this course could lead to

Learners will leave feeling confident about creating documents with the software and be able to navigate the interface intuitively and productively.
You will become more familiar with all computer fields with nice feeling that you need more in-depth courses like word stage1 or Microsoft Office essential for work. Students can also move on to an accredited course such as Computing Level 1 or ECDL level 2
Advanced level knowledge of this software could lead to job opportunities since MS Word is used a lot in the workplace.
