New: Fit And Fearless – Self Defence
If you are interested in defending yourself using the basics of self-defence, then this is the course
for you. You might have had some self-defence training before or this may be the first time you
have thought about trying, everyone is welcome. Learn how to make your body work for you, and
spot possible dangers all in the safe hands of a three-time karate world champion.
Who is this course for
This exercise aims to boost self-confidence and empower the participant.The course is open to everyone that would be interested to learn basic self-defence techniques. Prior experience is not mandatory, but it would help. Good body coordination is also a bonus.
What does this course cover
The course aims to raise awareness of potential dangerous situations and in the unfortunate event of an attack, give the participant the right mechanisms to protect him/herself to the best of their ability.
By the end of the sessions, the participants should be able to appropriately defend themselves against a series of attacks.
The course will contain:
- Exercises to raise awareness of dangerous situations and how to prevent them
- Defending mechanisms when the victim is grabbed
- Defending mechanisms when the victim is attacked with punches/swings
- Defending mechanisms when the victim is attacked with kicks
What will it be like
Teaching will be provided according to the KUGB( Karate Union of Great Britain) standards. The course tutor is a fully qualified KUGB instructor.
Participants will be matched based on their height and weight and paired against each other. Prior to each exercise, the tutor will demonstrate the techniques, one at a time, and then give the participants time to practice it before moving on to the next planned activity. Throughout the session, the tutor will actively supervise everyone's activity, give pointers and intervene when necessary.
In order to prevent injuries, when attacking each other, participants will use foam noodles. These are immensely helpful in order to simulate an attack as well as raise awareness with regards to the importance of the dodging or blocking techniques.
What else do you need to buy or do
Please wear loose comfortable clothing and flat shoes. All other materials will be provided in class.
What this course could lead to
Apart from the practical side, learning some basic self-defence mechanisms will help with preventing and avoiding unnecessary confrontations, the course can open the participants' appetite to practice martial arts. If the participants wish to continue exploring self defence or wish to start training on a regular basis, further advice can be offered from the tutor.
