New : HTML For Web Design Introduction

Learn basics of the languages used to create web pages and create a simple website. This course will teach you how to structure a page with HTML, add images, text and link pages together. You will also learn to control the appearance of web pages using CSS to set text, colours, margins and more. This course is suitable for students who have experience in computing and working on a PC, and also students who want to update the content on an existing website.

Who is this course for

This course is for beginners to HTML but you should be confident doing following on your computer-
Opening, saving, copying and moving files
Using the World Wide Web (www)
Using a simple Word Processor or text editor
Typing at least 20 words per minute

What does this course cover

Introduction to HTML5 tags and the structure of an HTML document
Adding and formatting text
Inserting images into web pages
Using links in your web pages
Meta tags and search engines
Validating webpages
Using CSS to change colours, fonts, backgrounds and spacing

By the end of the course you should be able to:
1. Create simple web pages incorporating text and images
2. Link to web pages and web sites
3. Change the appearance of pages with CSS
4. Validate web pages and fix errors.

What will it be like

Each student has their own computer. Presentations will be made using computers, whiteboard, overhead screen and printed notes.
Step by step instruction/ demonstration and hands on exercises to practice HTML code and CSS
You will have a chance to work on a small project

Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

What else do you need to buy or do

You will need to bring a memory stick, pen and paper.
There will also be optional homework and outside study.
