New Life In The Uk Test – Preparation Course
This is a non-accredited course for students preparing
to take the Life in the UK Test. It helps students gain
confidence and develop exam skills and cover topics
which include important events from British History,
British society today as well as an introduction to the
political and legal system in the UK.
Who is this course for
This course is for adults who wish to apply to become a British Citizen or Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK; such individuals (between the ages of 18-64) usually have to fulfil a requirement to show their knowledge of the English language and of life in the United Kingdom. T
Some students may already have strong independent studying skills and may not need this course. It is especially therefore for students who wish to prepare for the exam in a supportive, interactive and structured environment.
Students should ordinarily be expected to have a starting level of English of at least ESOL Entry 3.
What does this course cover
This course covers the 5 Chapters which comprise the Life in the UK Test curriculum:-
Chapter 1: The values and principles of the UK
Chapter 2: What is the UK?
Chapter 3: A long and illustrious history
Chapter 4: A modern, thriving society
Chapter 5: The UK government, the law and your role
The aim is to ensure that students are fully acquainted with the curriculum and that they have the skills needed to take the Life in the UK Test (after completing one term of 12 classes - 3 hours each).
What will it be like
The primary practical focus on the course is on equipping the students for the exam (i.e. highlighting key facts, as well as exploring study skills such as ways of revising and remembering facts, understanding the format of the questions and doing practice questions throughout the course as well as practice tests towards the end).The course will therefore include interactive dialogue and also aim to consolidate language skills relevant to the exam.
What else do you need to buy or do
Some weekly Homework will also be set as part of the Course.
A pen, paper and a folder will be needed to take notes and file handouts.
What this course could lead to
Students who complete the course will be ready to take the Life in the UK Test. Students may also decide to improve their spoken Englsih more with a general ESOL class.
