New: Rock N Roll For Improvers

Give yourself a lift with this fun and lively course, enjoying rock N roll music from the 1950s to the present day. Including lots of turns, spins, flicks and kicks, this course will cover a variety of improver level steps and sequences that follow on from the beginner level course.

Who is this course for

This is an improver level course for those who have taken the beginner level course or otherwise have some experience in Rock 'n' Roll dancing.

What does this course cover

This course will recap and develop the basic steps of International style Rock & Roll, firstly in the slow rock style and then continuing with more lively kick / flick options as the course progresses. Students will learn a further selection of Rock & Roll turns, spins, walks and arm movements at improver level and make links with the beginner movements, improving technique, style and confidence in leading / following. Dances will be performed to 1950/60's music which will be discussed in relation to the rhythm patterns and authentic style of the dance.
Main Outcomes
1, Demonstrate a selection of improver level steps and movements in Rock & Roll style.
2, Perform steps and movements in time to a range of authentic music, showing confident rhythmical interpretation.
3, Demonstrate ability to lead / follow a partner with appropriate style and technique.

What will it be like

The steps and movements will be demonstrated, described and modelled by the tutor and then learners will follow, working solo or with a partner. Independent practice time will be given and creative input facilitated. The tutor will observe your performance and make suggestions for improvement. Self and peer assessment will also be encouraged. You don't need to come with a partner; dancers will be encouraged to rotate partners across the group to enhance leader and follower skills and to fully experience the social nature of the dance.

What else do you need to buy or do

Participants should wear loose clothing comfortable for movement. Footwear should be jazz shoes or lightweight trainers / plimsolls.
