Painting And Drawing: Processes And Materials
Work on a range of drawing and painting projects focusing on techniques, processes & materials. The course will explore the relationship between drawing & painting and work towards finished pieces. This course is open to all: Beginners, improvers and returners.

Beginners, improvers and returners.
Students who attend other courses in the Mary Ward Art Department.
Foundation and Pre-Foundation students building portfolios for application to higher education.
What does this course cover
Drawing in different ways for different purposes
Using a variety of techniques and materials to make expressive and sensitive drawing
The basics of drawing
The differences between drawing and painting what are they?
The uses of drawing for painting, adapting drawings
Painting basics: Materials, colour, tools and application methods
Means to invention - Using drawing imaginatively
Resolving a painting
Considering weekly work of other artists
Improve basic drawing and painting skills
Develop personal and inventive approaches
Be more confident with basic skills in using these to explore and develop ideas
Have a familiarity with materials and techniques
Be able to reflect on their outcomes constructively
What will it be like
Lecturing and demonstration: question and answer
Encouragement and participation
Written and oral self-reflection and evaluation
Progress will be assessed on a one-to-one basis during the period of the course. Students will be encouraged to discuss and agree solutions with the tutor in areas of the work that are causing problems.
There may be occasional trips to galleries.
What else do you need to buy or do
At the start of the course the materials required by students will be outlined by the tutor
Some basic materials are provided by the Centre.
Students will be encouraged to build their own collection of equipment
The tutor will inform the group in advance of any special materials required.
