Pattern Cutting Taster – Summer
Are you interested in studying Pattern Cutting in more depth and working towards a Level 1 Qualification? This taster workshop will help students find out more about our Level 1 Pattern Cutting Qualification and guide them through the process. The day will include an introduction to the course and the tutor, a creative workshop and advice and guidance about all the options.
Who is this course for
This course is for anyone who wants to learn to make their own patterns for dressmaking and be interested in finding out more about studying Pattern Cutting in more depth, or working towards a Level 1 Qualification. It will help students understand the contents of the course and to meet our tutor.
It is also open to all students who would like to explore enjoyable Pattern Cutting workshop for a full day.
What does this course cover
This course is for anyone who wants to learn to make their own patterns for dressmaking and be interested in finding out more about studying Pattern Cutting in more depth, or working towards a Level 1 Qualification.
What will it be like
Learning will be facilitated by individual guidance and support from the tutor as well as peer centred learning. Skills and knowledge will be learned initially through visual demonstrations and verbal descriptions then students will work independently with one to one tutor advice and assistance. This will be supported by hand-outs. Students will be encouraged to comment about each other's work (peer centred learning).

2 metres of light to medium weight calico
Tracing wheel (optional)
What this course could lead to
This course could lead to other courses including the BTEC Pattern Cutting, Clothes-making Intermediate, Upcycling and Alterations, Introduction to the Sewing Machine, Sewing Machine Skills, Soft Furnishings, or the many other textile courses at the Mary Ward Centre or another further education college. Your tutor can advise on the best route to take. It could also inspire self-initiated projects.
