Resin Jewellery: Beginners

This resin course is designed for beginners. Students will learn the principles of how to mix and work with resin and how to use it to make beautiful contemporary jewellery though step by step projects.

Who is this course for

No previous experience or skills are required. Students from a variety of backgrounds and creative abilities would be suitable for this course. They should be interested and inspired by exciting textures, surfaces, materials and colour.

What does this course cover

Students will learn the principles of how to mix and work with resin and how to use it to make beautiful contemporary jewellery though step by step projects.

What will it be like

- Understand the importance of the use of colour.
- Learn and demonstrate arranging pieces to cast in resin.
- Understand how to use a variety of moulds for casting resin.
- Gain confidence in their creative abilities.

- Visual demonstration and verbal explanation.
- Written handouts with visual diagrams.
- One-to-one teaching.
- Group discussions.

Learning methods:
- Hands on practical experience.
- Reading handouts and following instructions.
- One-to-one and group discussion.

How we assess students' progress on the course.
Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives.
Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

What else do you need to buy or do

Some materials will be provided by the college or available to buy at cost price. Prior to the course students may want to collect interesting things to encapsulate e.g. beads, buttons, threads, decorative paper, small drawings, natural materials such as pressed flowers or leaves, found and bought bits and bobs.

What this course could lead to

Attend other art related classes at The Mary Ward Centre - Textiles, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Painting etc. Learn different textile techniques for example knitting, weaving, crochet, printing and dyeing and feltmaking. Attend other classes at The Mary Ward Centre
Attend other courses at different venues in the community.
