Sculpture: Make And Create

Make and create with this enjoyable, experimental and imaginative sculpture course where you will learn a broad range of techniques to realise your project. Work with Ceramics, Wirework, Metal, Wood and Found Objects. Work independently or follow set projects. Whether a beginner or experienced come and enjoy the process of making.

Who is this course for

Anyone who has the desire to make, explore materials and have fun! So beginners to the more experienced makers.

What does this course cover

A variety of 'making' techniques which will be project related but this could include mixing plaster, spot welding, ceramic techniques, modelling, basic slip casting. Materials that you can use are wood, metal, clay, recycled objects, wire, plaster.

What will it be like

Come with an idea you wish to explore, follow a set project or finish up work that you haven't completed.

This is a fun, welcoming and explorative class in which you will have the freedom to investigate and develop ideas. This course encourages you to enjoy using materials and the process of 'making', so ideal for a beginner or someone with more experience. There will be no right or wrong to what you do and you will be encouraged to be as creative as possible.
The sculpture studio has a variety of materials which you can use and you will be shown various techniques and solutions to complete your project or projects; Plaster, Clay, Metal, Wood, Recycled objects.

Please feel free to bring in recyclable objects and materials that you want to use.
During the two days you will be given information on contemporary artists to initiate ideas or that may have relevance to your style of working.

Justine is a contemporary sculptor and artist with a studio at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation. Justine works mainly in mixed media and she has particular expertise in slip casting and other casting processes.

What else do you need to buy or do

Space is limited, so works can't be too large and there is a 7kg weight restriction.
The sculpture studio has a variety of materials which you can use and you will be shown various techniques and solutions to complete your project or projects; Plaster, Clay, Metal, Wood, Recycled objects.

What this course could lead to

If you get hooked on making then you can go onto any other art courses at The Mary Ward Centre including Sculpture, you may even be interested in the progression courses such as Pre-Foundation and Foundation In Art And Design or APAD.
