Do you want to crush your enemies and toss them aside as though they were matchsticks? But seriously, would you like to learn how to defend yourself against punches and kicks? Get out of being grabbed? Increase your understanding of how to defend yourself with some basic techniques in a supportive group atmosphere. All fitness levels welcome.

Who is this course for

This course is open to everyone who is interested in learning basic self-defence techniques. The exercises aim to boost self-confidence and empower you. Apart from the practical side, learning some basic self-defence mechanisms will help with preventing and avoiding unnecessary confrontations. Prior experience is not essential but it would help. Good body co-ordination would also be a bonus.

What does this course cover

The session aims to raise awareness of potentially dangerous situations and in the unfortunate event of an attack, give you the right mechanisms to protect yourself to the best of your ability.
By the end of the session, you should be able to appropriately defend yourself against a series of attacks.
The course will contain
- an exercise to raise awareness of dangerous situations and how to prevent them.
- defending mechanisms when the victim is grabbed.
- defending mechanisms when the victim is attacked with punches/ swings
- defending mechanisms when the victim is attacked with kicks

What will it be like

Teaching will be provided according to the KUGB ( Karate Union of Great Britain) standards. The course tutor is a fully qualified KUGB instructor.
You will be matched based on your height and weight and paired against other students in the class. Prior to each exercise, the tutor will demonstrate the techniques, one at a time, and give you time to practice before moving onto the next planned activity. Throughout the session, the tutor will supervise everyones activity, give pointers and intervene when necessary.

What else do you need to buy or do

Please wear loose comfortable clothing and flat shoes. All other materials are provided in class.

What this course could lead to

Students can take the follow-on course Fit and Fearless- Self Defence. The course can open your appetite to practice martial arts. If you wish to continue exploring self defence or wish to start training on a regular basis, the tutor can advise on what to do next.
