Self Promotion For Artist

Are you an artist or designer maker who wants to be able to make money from your work? Discover the range of social networks available and make links with others working in your field. On this intensive day course you will learn from an artist how (and why) to use social media including Facebook and Instagram to promote your work as well as how and what to blog.

Who is this course for

This course is designed for artists and crafters who would like to promote and/or sell their work online. You may have no experience of using social media or may want to improve your current use.

What does this course cover

You will learn how to effectively use social media to promote yourself as an artist/crafter with the help of a tutor who has her own business selling handmade jewellery (both online and in shops).
Your tutor will guide you through setting up accounts and how to use them effectively to promote or sell your work. You will have time during the course to practice and get feedback from your tutor.
You will set up accounts in the following

- Facebook
- Instagram
- setting up a blog, how to blog, what to write

We will also discuss ways to sell online e.g. Etsy, Folksy, Big Cartel etc

Teaching methods:
' Visual demonstration and verbal explanation
' Written handouts
' One-to-one support and feedback on your progress
' Group discussions
Learning methods:
' Hands on practical experience - you will create and use your social media
' Reading handouts and following instructions
' One-to-one and group discussion

How will I be assessed?
At the start: Self assessment questionnaire

On the course: Through self assessment, peer assessment and tutor assessment

At the end: Through self assessment, peer assessment and tutor assessment

What else do you need to buy or do

The social media sites we will be using are free. To best promote your art you will need to
use the sites weekly

What this course could lead to

This course is designed so that you can take control of promoting your art/craft. You will be advised on options for selling work online. You may want to create your own website and can do this with the same tutor, with a Build your website in two days course available during the summer school for those that are interested.
