Silver Clay Ring Making
This course is designed for those with some experience of using silver clay, either a beginners course or your own practice at home. On this course you will make two different types of silver clay ring.

This course is designed for those with some experience of using silver clay, either a beginners course or your own practice at home.
What does this course cover
Silver clay is a relatively new product to the market. It can be worked like clay and is made of fine silver particles, a binder and water. When it is fired (which can be done with an inexpensive butane torch at home) the result is a 99.9% fine silver piece which is of hallmark quality. (Note, it is recommended that rings are kiln fired)
On this course you will make two different types of silver clay ring.
You will learn how to:
- make two types of ring - flat band ring and D profile ring (both shaped around the mandrel)
- calculate the size to allow for shrinkage
- add embellishments to your ring/s
- programme a jewellery kiln for firing rings
Your tutor is a Certified Art Clay Instructor, a certified PMC instructor and holds the Higher diploma in Metal Clay and is the silver clay demonstrator for Create and Craft TV.

At the start: Self assessment questionnaire

What else do you need to buy or do
An allowance of clay will be provided by the centre. If you are making large rings you may need to purchase more silver clay (available from your tutor at cost price)
What this course could lead to
You may choose to study another metal clay course alternatively you may want to try a different jewellery making technique e.g. silver jewellery, beading, wirework etc. Or it may inspire you to study other Art, Design or the Performing Arts courses at the Mary Ward Centre (see prospectus)
