Singing and Performance

Students must be able to sing in tune and in time prior to joining the course.
Who is this course for
This course is designed for anyone with a love of singing who wants to take their singing and performance to the next level. No previous technical training is required, but you must be able to sing in tune and in time prior to joining the course.
What does this course cover
Mic technique & tips for stage presence & performance
Vocal warm ups and warm downs
Singing harmonies and blending your voice
An introduction to time signatures & finding the right key for you
Vocal maintenance & good techniques
Bringing the song to life, how to sing with emotion
Breathing techniques and a developing a practice routine
Each learner to develop an awareness of their specific vocal tendencies and some exercises to develop upon these
What will it be like
Throughout the course, we will work through a variety of songs in a fun, encouraging and creative environment. We will use the process of learning songs as a pathway to developing confidence, vocal & performance technique and overall musicianship.
The learners will have the opportunity to work as an ensemble, in small groups and as soloists and will receive individual constructive feedback throughout. The learners will also be supported to identify styles and song choices that will suite them for future performances. On the final day of the course, the group will have the opportunity put everything into practice by to participating in either a group or solo performance.

Just bring your singing voice along.
What this course could lead to
Students will be made aware of further theoretical and singing courses run at the Mary Ward. As these courses will be internally assessed, students will also be directed towards furthering their private study through recognised music schools which provide academic and practical study.
