Social Media and the Web and E-mail
Explore and join Social Networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as finding out about and creating blogs. Understand the core similarities and differences between Web Browsers to search online and use email. Learn how to utilise a search engine such as Google to download pictures, music and podcasts, plus watch videos/TV shows online. Upon completion of this course you may follow this with the Internet Safety course or the Dreamweaver web design course.
Who is this course for
Anyone who wishes to learn how to make use of the internet for home or work. Also those who may have been using the Internet for some time but want to know more. The course takes you from the beginnings of the world wide web to looking at the current uses. No previous knowledge of Internet is required, but some experience of Windows is essential.
Please note that if you are more than 30 minutes late for your course the tutor can not let you start as it disrupts the learning of the other students.
What does this course cover
For students to become familiar with the Internet for personal use or work. Includes all aspects of Internet use from the history through browsing and searching as well as an introduction to the use of e-mail on the Internet, blogs and podcasts.
Know what the Internet is; Access the internet; Visit websites; Use Bookmarks; Use History; Save and Print a web page; Save an Image; Use Search Engines to Find Specific Information; Intro to web email; Find specialist software; Use blogs and podcasts; Download music, images and videos; Visit social networking sites and understand their privacy settings.
What will it be like
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
