Social Media and the Web and E-mail
Visit and join social networking sites Twitter, Facebook etc. Find and create blogs and podcasts. Browse and search the web and use webmail. Download music, pictures, videos and view TV. See how to buy online, book tickets, bank and use ebay. Look at security and how to protect your computer. You will be introduced to how web sites are created (follow this with the web design course Dreamweaver).
Who is this course for
Anyone who wishes to learn how to make use of the internet for home or work. Also those who may have been using the Internet for some time but want to know more. The course takes you from the beginnings of the world wide web to looking at the current uses. No previous knowledge of Internet is required, but some experience of Windows is essential.
Please note that if you are more than 30 minutes late for your course the tutor can not let you start as it disrupts the learning of the other students.
What does this course cover
For students to become familiar with the Internet for personal use or work. Includes all aspects of Internet use from the history through browsing and searching as well as an introduction to the use of e-mail on the Internet, blogs and podcasts.
Know what the Internet is; Access the internet; Visit websites; Use Favorites; Use History; Save and Print a web page; Save an Image; Use Search Engines to Find Specific Information; Intro to web email; Find specialist software; Use blogs and podcasts; Download music, images and videos; Visit social networking sites; Understand Internet security.
What will it be like
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course objectives.
Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet.
What else do you need to buy or do
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere or from homework given by the tutor.
