What does this course cover
We will explore a range of traditional and less conventional techniques for applying and manipulating watercolour on a variety of paper surfaces to achieve a more contemporary style.
We will discuss a new artist each week and explore how their painting techniques can inform our own work through choice of colour, composition, theme and technique.
There will be weekly painting exercises and a variety of mixed media to explore.
What will it be like
Practical demonstrations will be given by your tutor and there will be painting exercises to take part in.
There will be handouts provided with useful tips, extended learning and also examples of established artists' work for historical context.
Each week you will receive individual support as well as take part in group discussion/feedback.
What else do you need to buy or do
An allocation of paper will be supplied but you might want to purchase a wider range of papers for the course.
New students need only buy 3 x colours of paint, small tubes, of RED, YELLOW AND BLUE (it's not worth purchasing lots of different paint at this stage).
A mixing palette and a few synthetic sable brushes (numbers 4 and 6 are recommended as well as a 1' flat brush for washes).
