This is a series of one-day workshops for Absolute Beginners - people with little or no experience of crafting - where you can learn a new skill in a supportive atmosphere. You can take any one of these independently or take all three.
In the November 16th workshop you will learn how to make Winter Woollies, a hat, scarf or wrist-warmers.
In the March 28th workshop you will learn how to create a Marbling effect on paper.a.
In the July 11th workshop we will be decorating plant pots for your home using collage and paint. .
Who is this course for
These fun and friendly courses are for anyone who would like to learn a new craft which you can continue with at home or in a weekly class.
What does this course cover
In the November 16th workshop you will learn how to make Winter Woollies, a hat, scarf or wrist-warmers, by knitting a rectangle using only one or two basic stitches. We might even make a pom-pom for your hat!
In the March 28th workshop you will learn how to create a Marbling effect on paper and then use the paper you have decorated to make Collages, Greetings Cards and Bookmarks.
In the July 11th workshop we will be decorating plant pots for your home using collage and paint. You can also learn how to create a sculpture of a face on your pot using Artroc.
Each lesson will start with a video or PowerPoint presentation and a tutor demonstration. There will be whole-class and individual, one-on-one tuition throughout the lesson. You will also be provided with an instructional handout so that you can continue to create at home. We try to make the classes as much fun as possible and you should have something you have made to take home with you.
What will it be like
Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. One-to-one teaching. Group discussions
Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, Reading handouts and following instructions.
One-to-one and group discussion.
How students are assessed: Questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching.
Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.
What else do you need to buy or do
All materials will be provided by the college. If you have an idea that you would like to pursue in the class, bring a sketch or a photo and we will try to help you with it.
What this course could lead to
You may wish to join other art or craft classes at Mary Ward Centre and/or elsewhere, building on the skills that you have acquired on these courses. Specialist weekly courses are available, or you may wish to continue with a course in which you can incorporate your newly-acquired skills.
