ECDL – Evening

Learn to use the three key programs used in employment: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The course is tutor-led throughout and students are advised to consolidate their learning outside the college, or make use of the Student Learning Resource Room. Upon successful completion of four short online exams, you receive the BCS Level 2 ITQ Certificate in IT User Skills.

Social Media and the Web and Email

Visit and join social networking sites Twitter, Facebook etc. Find and create blogs and podcasts. Browse and search the web, use webmail. Download music, pictures, videos and view TV. See how to buy online, book tickets, bank and use ebay. Look at security and how to protect your computer. You will be introduced to how web sites are created (follow this with the web design course Dreamweaver).

Illustrator:

Learn the software used for graphic illustration and drawing techniques that is widely used in typesetting and logo graphic areas of design. It is a course of special interest to those interested in graphic design, website development or video and animation production. You may wish to combine this course with our Photoshop and InDesign courses

Photoshop

A chance to gain full understanding of Photoshop on a long course. The essential features required for
photograph, image and scanned image manipulation. You will learn about image selection tools, blending, modes, layers and layer effects, groups, patterns, styles, vector objects, adding text, clipping, masks and filters, history panel, history brush and snapshots. More advanced topics are also introduced including channels, paths, tools e.g. extract, liquify and customised brushes. Some students choose to begin learning Photoshop by taking the Digital Photography Introduction with Photoshop course.

Photography – Digital Saturdays

Once you know the basics here is a chance for you to set aside time to learn the practical and creative side of the DSLR camera. Create a portfolio of work as you increase your knowledge of digital photography week by week. Learn from others and also share your experiences behind the lens.

ILM Leadership And Team Skills Qualification

Need a course that is the ideal launch pad for your management career? Start with this nationally recognized qualification that is designed for new and aspiring team leaders – get an in-depth introduction to the role and its responsibilities. This is a classroom-based afternoonevening course delivered by tutors who are current practitioners in the sector. One session per week over 23 weeks plus online materials starting in January 2016. If you are in receipt of JSA/ESA or are unemployed and receive another income related benefit this course is FREE. Full fee is £597.

Project Management Starter

This is a short preliminary course that is very popular with students as it enables them to become familiar with the theories and practice of project management. It is ideal for those with limited practical experience of managing a project to prepare for the APM Introductory Certificate. Enrol for both at the same time.

Digital Media Software Starter

Get a taste of all the programs taught in the Mary Ward Centre Digital Media section. It includes Dreamweaver. Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and PowerPoint. This course will help you to choose your follow on courses.
