The course will get you up to speed on the latest Adobe Lightroom software and teach you how to use it to develop and post-process images, as well as manage all your photographs on the computer desktop and the cloud.
This course is for anyone thinking about whether Lightroom is for them or needs help with understanding the software. You will be interested in understanding the potential of your camera’s RAW files and how to develop them. You will want to learn to expand your photographic creativity with editing and post-production skills including masking.
This course will cover:
1. Learn about the RAW file format and the differences of JPG, HEIC and TIF
2. Learn how to import to Lightroom from different devices.
3. Understand local as well as cloud storage options.
4. Use of metadata so that you can flag, rate and search your photos.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
1. Understand how to import images into Lightroom, set metadata, organise your photos for local or cloud storage and know how to create and share albums
2. Understand how to develop RAW images for exposure and colour balance so your photographs look as you want them to.
3. Understand how to use global and selective local adjustments including the masking and healing tools
4. Understand how to export images for web and print with sharpening and re-sizing including using Lightroom’s integration with Photoshop
5. Lightroom’s image management, including albums and cloud-sharing.
6. Learn to develop RAW files and edit using global adjustments to exposure and colour.
7. Learn how to use selective masking with Lightroom and make local adjustments.
8. Learn about AI and healing tools for cloning and removing artefacts from images.
9. Understand how to crop and export images in different pixel sizes for screen or print.
The course will lead you through all the key features of Adobe Lightroom. There will be presentations and plenty of hands-on time exploring Lightroom topics where the tutor will show the editing step by step and give one on one help. In the practical sessions, everyone will learn on a core set of images before transferring this learning onto their own photos. Question and answer sessions involving the whole class will help everybody to progress with learning to use Lightroom for photography post-production.
During the course you will want to bring your camera and SD card so you can make and edit your own photographs. Alternatively transfer these to a USB stick so that you can edit with them during the course.
You can enrol to study a digital photography course, either the Introduction or Intermediate courses or the practice--based Digital Photography in the City course. Alternatively continue with developing your software skills at the Mary Ward Centre by joining one of our other Adobe courses.
