This course offers a practical introduction to Adobe Photoshop, the industry-standard software for digital image editing and manipulation. It’s ideal for beginners or those with some prior experience looking to build confidence and develop creative skills.
You will explore Photoshop’s essential tools and features for working with photographs, scanned images, and digital artwork. Key topics include:
Navigating the Photoshop workspace
Opening, saving, and managing files
Using selection tools and working with image areas
Layers, layer effects, blending modes, and masks
Applying text, filters, and image adjustments
Using the history panel, history brush, and snapshots
Creating clipping groups and using the clone stamp tool
Basic scanning and file preparation for print or web
Through guided exercises, you’ll learn how to enhance, adjust, and transform images with confidence. The course includes both step-by-step instruction and opportunities to explore tools at your own pace.
No prior knowledge of Photoshop is required, but basic computer skills and familiarity with file management are essential.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a solid understanding of Photoshop’s core functions and be able to apply them to personal or creative projects.
The course is hands-on and tutor-led, combining demonstrations, guided practice, and individual support. You’ll follow step-by-step tutorials using a computer-linked projector (Smartboard), and take part in class discussions, one-to-one support, and group activities.
Learning takes place through practical tasks that help you apply what you've learned straight away. Your tutor will monitor your progress through observation, questions, and short tasks, and you’ll also complete self-assessment checklists at the start and end of sessions to reflect on your progress.
To reinforce your learning and build confidence, it’s advisable to have access to Adobe Photoshop at home so you can practise between sessions.
