This course is aimed at those who are considering registering onto our yearlong Art Foundation (BTEC Level 3 National 540 Diploma). You should have some experience of art and design already, but this course will give you the opportunity to build the portfolio needed for entry to the qualification.
The course is delivered over 1 term and will take place in the studio on Thursday evenings 17.30 - 21.00, in which students will build the skills necessary to complete a level 3 project brief to the standard required on the qualification course. Students will also benefit from a one-to-one tutorial with the lead tutor.
Key Subject areas will be research and critical studies, 2D visual skills.
Focus will be on 2D skills development, leading to a final presentation and tutor feedback.
What students should be able to do by the end of the course.
I. Apply for the Art Foundation course.
II. Complete their own visual research
III. Develop their own visual language and creative practice
Students' progress will be monitored and benchmarked against the assessment criteria of the qualification. The project will be completed in a combination of Foundation class time and during independent study time, giving all students an opportunity to develop ideas over the term.
A variety of teaching and learning methods are used, including practical workshops, seminars, individual and group tutorials.
Most materials are provided, but some specialist papers can be bought at cost.
If you decide to follow up your studies by applying for the level 3 Art Foundation, any fees paid towards the taster course will contribute towards the cost of the qualification. You would then be able to fund the remainder of your L3 study fees with a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan, your application will need to be submitted before the start of your studies.
Are you ready to take your art to the next level? Then this course is for you. Develop your own practice or prepare a portfolio for Foundation or HND. Some students progress directly to BA and Masters. You will work towards a NCFE Level 2 certificate.
