Award In IT User Skills (iICDL Essentials) Level 1

  • Who is it for?

    This qualification is the next step for student who want to improve their Office IT skills for work, business and home. It is suitable for students with some computer experience and those who have completed a EDSQ E3 qualification.

    You are expected to be punctual and attend 100% of this course. We kindly ask that you avoid booking holidays during this course. If you happen to miss two consecutive sessions without prior agreement with the tutor, there?s a possibility you may be withdrawn. Please ensure your English level is at E3/L1 English/ESOL to join.

  • What does it cover?

    This course is tutor-led throughout and is designed to build confidence and develop computing skills, knowledge and understanding. The course aims to equip learners with the basic range of transferable skills for the modern workplace. You will work through each practical activities, assignments, skills practice and homework.

    On this course you will be taught three units:

    Word - File Management and e-document production using Word,
    Excel - Creating Spreadsheets and Graphs using Excel
    PowerPoint - Presentation Graphics using PowerPoint

    You will cover all the areas required for the exams during the course. Each until has a practice exam which you will need to pass before you can enter the main unit exam. The tutor will manage your progress and advise you. Upon successful completion of three online exams, you receive the BCS Level 1 Award in IT User Skills (ICDL Essentials) (ITQ). (Formally known as ECDL)

    You will need access to a computer and the internet to practice regularly on between classes and to complete homework and assignments.

  • What will it be like?

    Teaching methods: Visual demonstrations using Smartboards, supported by written handouts with visual diagrams, one-to-one support and group discussions. The tutor will closely monitor your work as well as questioning, observing progress, setting tasks and assessments with diagnosis. Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, reading handouts and following instructions. One-to-one and group discussion.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    You will need to bring a folder to keep the handouts you will receive in class. Also, a notebook and a pen to take notes. A USB memory stick to store homework. You need to have access to a computer to practice Office and to regularly complete homework.

  • What could it lead to?

    At the end of the course, you will decide with your tutor which is the most appropriate next course for you. You can continue with ICDL Extra Level 2 qualification or other specialist IT / Computing course. Either way you will need to book an assessment appointment.

Level 2 Certificate in IT User Skills (ICDL Extra)

Do you need to improve your digital skills to help you in your job or to find work? This qualification is for aimed at students who have good knowledge of using computers. It is designed for to improve your IT skills required for the modern workplace. The course will focus on three key programs used in employment: Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Upon successful completion of four online exams, you receive the BCS Level 2 Award in IT User Skills (ICDL Extra) (ITQ). ( Formally known as ECDL)
