Beautifully Simple Melt And Pour Soaps

This course is designed for beginners and will give you the skills to make simple organic and chemical free soaps. We will use melt and pour soap bases and additional natural ingredients such as essential oils, base oils and natural colours including dried vegetable powders and mica minerals to create skin-friendly soaps for everyday use. Students will work in pairs and each pair will create unique blends. Please note: Some of the soap bases used will include honey or goat milk.
  • Who is it for?

    This workshop is designed for total beginners and those with previous experience who wish to refresh their skills.

  • What does it cover?

    What exactly is soap?
    How does soap cleanses?
    How soap is made and what are 'Melt & Pour soaps?
    The difference between animal fat based-soaps and vegetable oil-based soaps?
    A brief introduction to a variety of natural ingredients used in soap making and their benefits and uses including essential oils, carrier oils, vegetable and mineral dyes etc.
    The scent notes of essential oils and principles of blending.
    Equipment needed for soap making.

    By the end of the course students should be able to:
    Understand the basic principles of melt & pour soap making.
    Understand the merits of both stove and microwave use in melt & pour soap making.
    List some of the benefits of natural soaps and their added ingredients to the skin.
    Understand the texture of melt & pour soaps and compatible blending ingredients.
    Appreciate the blending principles of essential oils to create pleasing aromas.

  • What will it be like?

    The teaching and learning methods we use on the course:
    Theory teaching methods include:
    Lecture / PowerPoint presentation / group and pair work / discussion / questions and answers.
    Practical activities:
    Preparing a selection of melt & pour soaps adding a variety of natural ingredients and aromas.
    Packing / wrapping your soaps using a variety of materials.

    How we assess your progress on the course?
    Throughout the day:
    You will receive regular verbal feedback from your tutor as and when appropriate.
    At the end:
    You will be asked to complete a session summary quiz (self-assessment) and course evaluation form.

    Students can enroll on further complementary therapies such as Aromatherapy, Indian Head massage, Alexander technique, Herbalism, Introduction to Ayurvedic medicine, Introduction to Native American Herbal back massage, Diet and Nutrition.

Christmas Soap Making - Melt And Pour Soaps

This course is designed for beginners and will give you the skills to make simple organic and chemical free soaps. The theme of Christmas will be reflected in the natural aromatic seasonal essences you will be using such as Orange, Cedarwood, Sandalwood and spices such as cinnamon and vanilla and chocolate!
