This qualification is the first step for students who want to study Bookkeeping skills for work, business and home. Please ensure you have at least E3/L1 English/ESOL and Maths
Students must be committed to attend the whole course, complete homework and take all of the assignments and exams.
This course covers the basic principles required in the use of a manual accounting system. Students will be introduced to basic manual book-keeping routines, banking procedures, recording receipts and payments. The course will also involve preparing and processing bookkeeping documents, recording credit transactions, making and receiving payments and maintaining petty cash records.
Demonstration using Smartboard through computer-linked projectors, exposition and discussion. One-to-one and Group work. Through tutor-guidance and hands-on experience, the completion of the course examination(s).
Examination. The tutor will closely monitor the students' work as well as questioning, observing progress, setting tasks and online questioning with diagnosis.
Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
As much practice as possible to reinforce learning. This may be at home or elsewhere by accessing courseware online or from homework given by the tutor.

This qualification gives students an introduction to the practical elements of financial record keeping, giving the student the necessary skills to record financial transactions in a manual bookkeeping system. The course will involve an introduction to double entry bookkeeping and keeping double entry records, preparing a trial balance and preparing reconciliations. You will also learn the skills needed to carry out a range of basic day-to-day computerised bookkeeping routines and activities, using Sage computerised accounting software. This course covers manual and computerised payroll processing. The IAB Level 2 Certificate in Payroll is specifically designed to appeal to those who are aspiring to become professional payroll administrators for a variety of businesses. The Level 2 qualification is primarily designed for those who: • have achieved the IAB Level 1 Award in Payroll, have some previous general knowledge of payroll procedures now wish to increase their skills and knowledge to that required of payroll processors prior to employment have previously worked in payroll and have not received a qualification. wish to return to working in payroll and need to update their knowledge. The course covers manual and computerised payroll. It is the starting point for those wishing to create and maintain a payroll. It covers payroll preparation, generating an employee record, making gross pay calculations, payroll processing and processing leavers. It also introduces the use of SAGE for computerised payroll administration. Successful students will receive an IAB qualification.
