Building Your Digital Skills 1

  • Who is it for?

    This course is ideal for beginners or individuals seeking to enhance their existing digital skills. Whether you?re interested in improving your digital skills or gaining more confidence in navigating the digital world, this course is tailored for you.   • What does it cover?

    This course is tailored for students who have very limited experience using computers and the internet. It aims to equip you with essential digital skills for your everyday life, improve your confidence and lay the foundation for further learning.

    By the end of this course, you will learn to:
    ' The basic terms commonly used in computers.
    ' Use and keep your devices safe.
    ' Navigate the operating system of your device.
    ' List the steps to resolve common technical issues.
    ' Identify file types and file sizes.
    ' Manage your files and folders.
    ' Create, edit, and save documents using Microsoft Word.
    ' Online search effectively and safely
    ' Send, receive, and reply to emails.

    Please ensure your English level is at E3/L1 English/ESOL to join

  • What will it be like?

    Teaching methods: Visual demonstration and verbal explanation. Written handouts with visual diagrams. Group discussions. Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, reading handouts and following instructions. One-to-one and group work. How students are assessed: Ongoing monitoring of students' work including questions, observation and tasks. Record of students' progress and achievement on an assessment sheet as they achieve the course objectives. Start and End of class student self-assessment/achievement tick sheet. Practical work produced is evidence of learning.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    You will need to bring a folder to keep the course handouts in order. A4 lined paper and a pen to take notes. A USB memory stick to store homework. Access to a computer and the internet to do homework and practise at home.

  • What could it lead to?

    This course doesn?t have any stressful final exams or an official qualification. If you attend on time to all lessons, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from the college. If you want to continue developing your skills you can go for Building your digital skills 2.
