If you have some experience you will learn new techniques and be inspired by new projects that touch on advanced areas of ceramics.
You will explore hand building techniques that include pinching, coiling and slab building. You will learn to use the pottery wheel and basic throwing techniques will be covered. You will decorate and glaze your pieces using various decorative techniques. You will be encouraged to develop your own design and produce finished items combining the skills you have learnt. The course aims to finish with a creative piece of work which can be incorporated into a project, e.g. vase, cup, plate, etc. You will discuss the finished project with your tutor during the course.
It is essential that you are able to stand, have good eyesight, good concentration and manual dexterity in using workshop equipment. You should be able to understand verbal instructions and safely use the workshop equipment.
The tutor will perform practical demonstrations and give verbal instructions and feedback at various stages of the project. Learners will receive one-to-one support and participate in group discussion. Continuous guidance and help will be available to every learner.
A small fee will be charged according to the weight of clay used per piece. £2 for 1pound of clay.
