Entry 2 Functional Skills ICT Qualification

Are you new to computers? Do you want to gain confidence using them? This could be your first step - an accredited course for complete beginners or those who have limited digital skills. The tutor will guide and help you to gain confidence and basic digital skills such as: ' using the keyboard and the mouse ' having basic knowledge of the layout and features of Windows 10 ' creating, saving, and printing simple documents in Word such as a letter or CV ' being safe online while using the internet for searching, shopping, or emailing Please ensure you have at least E3/L1 English/ESOL. We have regular Advice Sessions where you can find out more - we want to make sure this is the right course for you.   • Who is it for?

    This starter qualification is designed for those who have a limited knowledge of using computers or who are complete beginners. You must be committed to attend the whole course, complete homework and assignments and take your Entry Level Exams. The tutor will support you in that journey.

  • What does it cover?

    This ICT Functional Skills Entry Level course helps you become more confident with using computers and IT, and gain a nationally recognised qualification.
    It is designed to equip learners with the skills to operate confidently, effectively and
    independently in education, work and every day life.

    The qualification is Functional Skills ICT at Entry Level that aims to ensure that each individual is:
    o confident and capable when using ICT systems and tools
    o able to find and select information
    o able to develop, present and communicate information in both life and work.

    You will need to successfully pass a test in order to receive your ICT Functional Skills certificate at each level.
    There is one exam for each Level: Entry 1 and Entry 2. You will have a mock exam before you take this exam, to help you practice and check you are ready. Your Tutor will advise you on your progress throughout the course.
    You will all work toward Entry 1 and most students will move on to Entry 2 at the end of the course. You can take the exams more than once.

  • What will it be like?

    Visual demonstration and verbal explanation.
    Learning methods: Hands-on practical activities, reading handouts and following instructions. One-to-one and group discussion.

    You will also be assessed along the course by questions and answers during group discussions and one-to-one teaching. Sharing techniques/achievements in their work via zoom/ in class displays/discussion.

  • What else do I need to buy or do?

    You need to bring a folder to keep your handouts organised, a memory stick to save homework if you don't have access to the internet, a pen and a notepad.
    Materials are supplied free of charge by the Centre.
    There will be regular homework given by the tutor.
    We would recommend that you have access to a computer or Laptop to practice on.

    Level 1 Award in IT User Skills

    Further Study with Mary Ward Centre.
    Advice will be given by your tutor and you can visit or regular Advice and Guidance sessions for an assessment at Mary Ward Centre and Blackfriars Settlement.
