This course is designed for learners who can already understand and communicate in everyday situations, even if not always accurately. It is suitable for those who have studied French for at least two years and feel comfortable using the language in routine contexts.
The focus is on developing your vocabulary, fluency, and accuracy so you can express opinions, take part in more complex conversations, and follow the main ideas in spoken and written media such as news items, podcasts, and short articles.
You will work on all four key skills – speaking, listening, reading, and writing – using your existing knowledge as a foundation to build confidence and expand your language range. Stimulating materials and topics will help deepen your understanding of French-speaking cultures and support your self-expression.
Where possible, course content will be adapted to suit learners’ individual goals and interests.
To join this course, you are expected to have reached CEFR level A2, and you will be working towards level B1.
The course places strong emphasis on developing your confidence in speaking and reading through a variety of engaging, communicative activities. You’ll take part in pair work, small group tasks, whole-class discussions and debates, as well as role-plays, games, and presentations. Video, audio, and internet-based resources will also be used to bring the language to life.
Your progress will be supported throughout the course with regular feedback from your tutor, correction of homework, and opportunities for reflection and discussion. A more structured review of your learning will take place at the end of the course.
You’ll need a ring-binder or folder to organise your notes and handouts. All essential materials will be provided by the tutor, and there is no required textbook for this course.
Recommended for self-study (optional):
Grammaire Progressive du Français – Nouvelle Édition – Niveau Intermédiaire – 600 exercices + Corrigés (CLE International)
Alter Ego 2 + CD (Hachette)
You will be given regular homework to review what you’ve learned and prepare for the next lesson. To make the most of the course, it's recommended that you practise a little every day. Independent study will be encouraged, and you will have opportunities to give short presentations as part of your learning.
The course will be running all year long. It will then carry on term 2, and term 3.
