This Gentle Pilates course is suitable for those who wish to work at a gentler pace than in our other Pilates classes. Please note that the Tuesday class is a slightly longer class than the Thursday class.
If you have specific injuries or health problems please get advice from a medical practitioner before enrolling.
You will have the opportunity to experience gentler Pilates exercises that reinforce the Pilates principles. We learn about posture and the core muscles of the body while helping build strength, flexibility and mobility. Where appropriate alternatives are offered but during the course we cover exercises that are carried out standing, seated, kneeling and lying down.
By the end of the course you should feel confident you know how to
- Engage the postural muscles of your core
- Carry out a range of Pilates moves displaying correct alignment and control of your body
- Tutor will be verbally and physically demonstrating the movements as the class join with her.
- Tutor will be giving verbal feedback as well as visual feedback to correct their movements and postures.
At the start: Tutor observes technique, student self assessment
On the course: Combination of instructor and student assessment on the techniques and moves.
At the end: As above
Students should wear loose comfortable clothing and avoid eating a heavy meal before class.
Continue with Pilates either at the Mary Ward Centre or elsewhere.

A beginners course in pilates introducing the fundamental principles, incorporating breath, whole body movement and stretch. We will learn fundamental pilates exercises and how to use them to improve posture, balance, body alignment and better movement patterns. The course will be run via Zoom, please make sure you have installed it in advance of your first class.
