This is a gentle yoga class for those wishing to relax and improve mobility and flexibility. It is suitable for those who wish to practice yoga at a slower, more gentle pace.
Yoga is generally safe, but students who have any health concerns should check with a medical advisor that yoga is suitable before enrolling.
The class will include gently mobilising joints and stretching muscles with yoga postures (asanas). Some breath awareness (pranayama) and guided relaxations during the course will also help to aid relaxation and calm the mind.
By the end of the course, you should be able to
Perform some gentle yoga postures to aid flexibility and mobility
Combine breathing with movement to aid focus and concentration
Practice relaxation with guidance
At the start you will be asked to complete a health check form regarding your general health and make an assessment of your current knowledge of yoga.
Students follow verbal instructions and physical demonstrations by the tutor. Occasional hands on adjustments will be given. Students are encouraged to ask questions to assist their learning. At times there may be some pair work to enhance learning and technique.
You will be asked to evaluate your progress during and at the end of the course.
As most of the practice will take place on the mat you will need to be able to get up and down from the floor unassisted by the tutor. A lightweight sports towel might help for additional padding underneath the head or elsewhere if you find you need additional cushioning for comfort.
Wear loose comfortable clothing that does not restrict movements ( e.g. loose sports trousers, leggings, T-shirts) and that do not restrict your breath: no jeans or belts.
For health and safety reasons socks will need to be removed during any standing postures. Standing practice is done barefoot (or with anti-slip yoga socks if you do not wish to be barefoot.) You will need yoga mats.
You should come to class on an empty stomach or have waited at least 2 hours after a light snack before coming to class.
Tutor to advise at the end of the course. Students who wish to continue to the next term must enrol in advance.
